I can't believe that my last post was June 22, 2006. To make a long and painful story short--we left Finland on July 17 for an 8 week stay at home. We were scheduled to return September 14. However, my husband went up on the roof of our garage to clean some siding. He set the extension ladder up on an asphalt driveway. He fell about 8 feet onto the driveway and broke his right hip, wrist, and had a compound fracture of his ankle. After being pinned, screwed, and plated, spending 10 days in the hospital, 10 days in rehab center, and 5 months in physical therapy we returned to Finland five months late on February 14.
As you might well imagine we are very grateful for the excellent health insurance we have because David is a federal government retiree. We are grateful to our good next door retired bricklayer neighbor who recognized the sound of a crashing ladder, found David, and got our attention. We also appreciate our children and their families who were a great support and the many friends who visited, called, or sent notes during David’s convalescence. One of the benefits of the accident was that we got to spend a lot of time with our grandchildren in the middle of our mission. That time included the birth of two grandchildren, Christmas together, and attending and participating in the blessings of those two babies.
